To present a great training course you need to be prepared and be comfortable with the information you are passing on. You need to be well versed in the topic yourself and fully prepared for questions. You also need to be able to present the training in a way that is clear and concise, and helps the trainees improve their skills. Training other people is a skill in itself, but one that can be taught. Undertaking a course like a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment can help you present a great training course.

1. Preparation and Professionalism

You need to be prepared. Make sure you understand everything about the subject you are teaching. Study your notes and be prepared for questions. Also be prepared to be flexible while conducting the training course as your method of teaching may have to adapt to those you are training. For example, some people learn better with visual clues, while others can happily sit and be lectured to and retain all the information. Make sure that you are familiar with the space that you are presenting the course in and that you have any equipment that you need ready beforehand. If you are using computers or presenting slides, for example, then make sure you know how to use this equipment and that it is working properly. You also need to be professional when conducting the training, so knowing your topic is vital, and you also need to speak clearly, use good grammar and not use any slang words.

2. Timing

You will have a set amount of time given for your training course, whether it is an hour, a full day or even a week. When you are planning your course work out the timing of your presentation and make sure you pace yourself. Don’t fly through the information and present it too quickly otherwise you will not only be finished too early, but you also might not cover the topic properly and leave your trainees confused. Make sure you don’t speak too quickly otherwise you will be hard to understand, and also make sure you don’t bombard your audience with information. Give them time to digest what you are teaching them. Don’t just stand and lecture to them. Break up your course by including interactive elements. Have them work in pairs or groups to solve problems and do their course work. Make sure the focus isn’t always on you otherwise your course will become boring.

3. Participation

Prepare a written plan for your training course but don’t tie yourself to it. Be flexible and allow the participants of the course to help guide the training. They may be a group that likes to ask lots of questions, so make sure you allow for this. It may mean that you skip over certain points and pick them up at a later stage. Remember that the training course is for the trainees so let them dictate to some extent as to the direction the course takes. Encourage input from your trainees as they may have some new information and knowledge about the subject that is of benefit to everyone, even you.

Every problem is an opportunity in disguise, and a layoff is no exception. No one wants to be out of work unexpectedly, especially in a job market like this. Obviously your number one priority should be to find a new job. Brush up your resume, comb job sites and go on interviews. But once you have that ball rolling you’ll find that you have some down time in your day. Why not take advantage of this opportunity to advance your education?

The obvious reason to go back to school is to update or advance your knowledge and skills in your chosen profession or to learn a new skill that will help you change careers. Anything that can make you look more attractive to employers is a good thing. When you’re working you may not have time for school, but now you have some free hours. Put them to good use.

Another reason to go to college at this time is to fill in that dreaded resume gap. This is especially important if you’re out of work for a while. This really has two benefits. First, when a recruiter reads your resume, there’s no dead time. Recruiters often shy away from unemployed candidates, thinking that the best candidates already have jobs. If you list college as your current activity, there’s no gap. This will hold true for a few years down the road when you need to list what you’ve been doing professionally over the last several years. Second, when you go on an interview, you’ll be able to talk about your accomplishments at school. What employer would choose someone who sat at home over one who got out and went back to school?

Discouragement is the hallmark of an extended job search. When a candidate doesn’t get a call back, the natural thought is that the potential employer doesn’t want them. The truth may be that they have way to many applicants or that this candidate wasn’t exactly the right fit. Rather than getting down on yourself, go do something that brings you up. You’ll be more positive in interviews.

Any human resources professional will tell you that the way to get a job is by networking. You’ll never meet someone who knows someone who’s hiring if you’re sitting at home watching television. If you’re taking classes, especially on subjects specific to your profession, you’re likely to meet others in the same industry. This is true whether you’re sitting in a classroom or taking a class online. Make sure to say hello to the person next to you or participate in class forums.

The cost of college may seem like a deterrent right now. How can you pay for school when you don’t have a paycheck? Actually since financial aid is based on your income, this might be the least expensive time to go. And if it helps you find a job quicker or helps you land a better job, it will be well worth the money. So apply for aid, get a student loan, use some of your savings or do whatever it takes to go to school while you have the time.

There are now many online colleges that let you take classes entirely online. If you get a job while you’re taking classes, you won’t have to drop out. At a minimum you’ll be able to finish up the classes you’ve started, because you won’t have to miss class to go to work. Many online degree programs are designed for working professionals. You may find that even if you find a job quickly you’ll still want to pursue that degree to enhance your career at your new company and into the future.

Many people are inspired by Florence Nightingale who gave her services to mankind selflessly. You can also be another Florence Nightingale by enrolling into the nursing profession via an appropriate nursing course.

Online LPN nursing classes

There are many nursing classes which you can get on to start your nursing career. There is the nursing degree that qualifies you to be a registered nurse (RN) and further degrees as in Masters in nursing. There is also the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) nursing degree which you can take online today due to the high demand of nursing specialists.

It is easy to register for an online LPN nursing classes program today through the Internet as there are many providers of such courses. There are many advantages in undergoing an online LPN nursing classes program instead of going through an on-campus course.

Advantages

Registration for the online LPN nursing classes program is easy. The registration is simple and valid without the need to make a trip to the campus as your registration details onscreen will be accepted as you sent through the Internet. All fee payments can also be made online through online credit facilities.
You can run through the course lectures in your free time and send your completed assignments through the Internet. It is fast and secure. You are helping the environment by sending a soft copy than a printed copy.

The online LPN nursing classes program is the same as the one offered on campus; but you can complete the online program in a shorter duration as you exercise good time management on your learning. Hence, your career can start sooner than you expected.

It only takes 1-2 years for a successful completion of an online LPN nursing classes program with good time management and discipline.

There are online tutors to assist you whenever you require further help with your course. Online chats and discussions on the course are available with tutors and other course mates to enhance your learning experience.

Further Career Pathways

When you have successfully completed the online LPN nursing classes program, you can pursue a national certification or be engaged in a practical session with some approved nursing facility to add value to your acquired knowledge, unless you are already in regular time nursing employment. You can also consider an area of specialization to acquire some specific skills and knowledge to move your career forward. You can work in most medical environments such as hospitals, clinics, hospices, nursing homes and medical private practices.

Before starting to teach an online course, it is important to be certain that you have the ability to do it. It might seem quite easy at first – you don’t have to be anywhere specific and you don’t have to be online at a certain time either. But you do have to have the availability to spend a couple of hours online everyday, in order to read what the students discussed and provide them with feedback (ideally in less than 24 hours). The ability to solve problems and work well in difficult situations is a quality that you should have as an online trainer. Patience and the desire to interact with learners day after day also matters. And there’s the obvious feature: being able to cope with technology on a daily basis, which includes good typing skills.

It is recommended that before starting to teach online you actually goes through the experience of being an e-learning student. It’s even better to use the same platform for both learning and teaching: this way, you will be more prepared to solve technical issues or help students. By studying online yourself, you will be more careful with the directions, the organization of materials, feedback and deadlines. Consequently, you will be able to provide a more pleasant experience to the students. Additionally, by trying out several online courses, you will be able to discover your own style of teaching. Some trainers are more passive through the course, while others like to be 100% in the virtual classroom. Either way, finding the style that suits you best will reflect in the experience of the students.

Interactivity is crucial to the online environment, so, as a trainer, you should make sure that the course has this feature. Trainees should interact with each other (through discussions and group work), as well as with the teacher (who gives prompt feedback). It is not enough to just hand out information to the students, you have to show them how to use it. When deciding the communication methods of the online course, you should consider both synchronous and asynchronous methods. The synchronous methods (e.g. live chat, conference) are spontaneous and they happen in real time, but they’re quite difficult to schedule, due to time difference or availability. Asynchronous methods, on the other hand, are more reflective (e.g. forums, wikis, emails, essays) and time consuming, but they’re also very flexible. Ideally, a course would contain both methods, so that everyone can participate in one way or another. For example, chats can be used for Q&A sessions, while forums can be used for discussions.

The step between traditional and online training is not irrelevant. Even experienced classroom teachers might encounter problems in this rather new environment, as all the process and methods are so different. Some tricks that work as attention-grabbers in the classroom will probably have little or no effect online. It is more difficult to retain the attention of participants in an online class, so extra-effort should be invested in good design, creative content and continuous interaction.

Many parents now opt to have their children homeschooled for one reason or another. Some parents prefer homeschooling over the traditional method of sending children to schools because they would like to play an active role in their children’s education. Some children may be suffering from an illness that may make it difficult for them to attend regular school. Whatever the reason may be, homeschooling provides an option for parents and children, and like any other method of education, it can be turned into an interesting activity that both parents and children can benefit from.

However, there will always be some periods when either the parent or the child can become burned out from the homeschooling activities. Here are a couple of suggestions on how you can avoid homeschooling burn out and make the experience worthwhile for you and your child:

1. Consider your child’s learning limitations.

Children have different learning speeds, and you need to adjust the lessons according to your child’s learning pace. Try to determine your child’s limitations and try not to set very high expectations such as giving your children difficult reading selections that are not apt for their age.

2. Have a flexible schedule.

You may have arranged a schedule of lessons for the week, but make sure that the schedule allows for some adjustments, if necessary. Alternate learning periods with hours of play, watching interesting movies together, listening to music, learning a new dance step, etc.

3. Incorporate lessons into your child’s routine activities.

Even teaching basic math skills such as counting, addition, multiplication and solving math problems can easily be integrated into your child’s play time or even while doing other activities. For instance, one way to teach very young children to read is by showing them easy-to-read labels of their favorite foods and encouraging your kids to read them.

4. Throw in some fun activities during the week.

You can make the learning more fun by introducing fun activities. Arts and crafts can be fun times, and there are many websites that give suggestions on easy projects that your kids can try. You can also take them to parks, museums, and other places that are relevant to their lessons.

5. Most of all, make homeschooling a fun time for you as well.

Find ways to enjoy homeschooling together with your kids. Remember that homeschooling provides so many opportunities to bond with your child and to give you that sense of achievement that you are playing an active role in your child’s learning process.

Keep yourself motivated in order to motivate your child. You can even teach your own interests to your children, such as cooking, gardening, playing a musical instrument and see which activities interest them. Make sure that you provide some opportunities for your child to interact with other kids through sports or other activities that can also hone their social skills.

Homeschooling provides flexibility and more time for interaction between parent and child. The home is the best place for children to learn new things in life and your child will always cherish the time you spent teaching them valuable lessons in life.

We are living in a fast-paced world today where everyone is in a hurry. People want everything fast; reports are wanted ‘yesterday’. With the advent of the Internet, that is becoming a reality. Hence, many online nursing degrees are offered online and at an accelerated pace, especially when there is a shortage of nurses around the world.

Time Saver

There is available the online Accelerated Nursing Degree that confers the prestigious Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) qualification upon successful completion in a shortened time frame.

Instead of three years, you can save half the time with an online nursing degree course. There are some universities which offer the same nursing degree course online for only twelve months! The course is the same but the program is very compressed; it is not for the slow and easy students. Great concentration and dedication to the course is required to be successful in this fast paced online program. However, the pace can raise your adrenalin to feel the vigor and dynamism of the program.

However, with discipline and focus, you can succeed with this online nursing degree course in a faster time which is to your benefit. You can be quickly qualified to join the nursing workforce. But the high demand makes the competition very stiff for online nursing degrees. Hence, you would need to register early and be focused to stay on track with the tight course schedule.

Factors of Consideration

As the course is very packed, there will be very little time to relax; much less to consider working part-time along the way. Hence, you must be financially sound to undertake such an accelerated course. You must be mentally prepared to indulge into such a demanding course as there would be no need to doubt and reconsider once you are enrolled. Hence, your mental health is as important as your physical health when considering this type of online courses.

You will need to be psychologically prepared for the demands of the course for the whole duration of the course, whether it is twelve months or eighteen months. A lot of hard work is required to excel in an accelerated nursing course where a high level of discipline is necessary to ensure consistent learning.

You must be prepared to put aside your hobbies and time offs for loved ones and activities during the whole duration of the course as your time would be occupied with lectures, research, assignments and clinical requirements.

Do not shy away from the creation-evolution debate. While not critical for younger children, high school students need to have some understanding on both sides of the debate. Although we did not shy away from the debate in our homeschool, I wish I had covered the topic even more. It is a major topic of discussion on college campuses today – especially on Christian college campuses. You do not want your student to be unprepared for the challenges they will face to their views on this topic.

Students need to become informed so they can provide reasoned arguments for their beliefs. Without understanding the issue, they cannot reasonably form their own belief system. They need the information for some tests, particularly the biology AP and CLEP exams.

As they leave your home, they may begin to question their beliefs. I felt that I had done a good job of covering the issues. We had numerous books on the topic at home, and we used Apologia sciences, which has an explanation of the creationist viewpoint. We did not shy away from evolution, and some of our school books had an assumption of evolution. My children understood the concepts of evolution, and could explain their beliefs to others.

Even so, one of my children have since wondered if I did not cover evolution enough. I carefully explained (again) our many discussions and books on the issue. I think he was remembering only the creationist material, and had forgotten the other material. It was interesting to me that he would have preferred MORE information on evolution. He felt that it could have prepared him better in college.

If you are concerned about evolution in your home, consider carefully the age of your student. At some point you want them to become an adult, and learn about variety of different opinions so they can develop their own. You want them to face the culture with their beliefs firmly attached – beliefs based on fact, rather than ignorance. With information and discussion you can strengthen your child’s ability to stand firm.

Do not be afraid of this discussion. There is strong evidence for your beliefs, whether you hold a traditional creationist beliefs or more recently, belief in Intelligent Design. For information on the latter, check out the Discovery Institute in Seattle, Washington. They have many leading scientists who argue that the complexity of the universe and life on earth is far to complex to have developed through random chance and mutation. If you get some of their material, your students will be well armed.

It happens to be one of the most overlooked perks you can get at a job – discounted college tuition. Just imagine – when you are a teenager, looking fearfully at the terribly expensive tuition involved in getting into college, thinking about student loans that you’ll be stuck with for the rest of your life, looking at the stingy aid packages you get from the government – didn’t you wish there was someone out there who could just pick up your college tuition tab and let you be in peace? Well, at many American companies, that is exactly what you get. More than half of all American companies have some kind of tuition reimbursement program where they help you pay for your undergraduate education or grad school. As long as you get at least a B, you get something from 75% to 100% reimbursed for what you pay in college tuition.

The college tuition perk is a program you’ll find at every one of America’s hundred most sought-after companies to work for. Google does it, McDonald’s offers partial reimbursement even for part-time workers, and UPS does it as well with their Earn and Learn program. UPS has actually given out $50 million over the past 12 years or so that their program has been up and running. All of these are companies recognize that the more they ingratiate themselves to their employees, the better educated their workers are, the more successful they will be.

So how exactly does a college tuition plan work? At some companies, they will only finance your college if it has something to do with your work. That’s the way it is with Morgan Stanley or with Citi. Some companies will even allow employees time off to study for particularly difficult courses. They call them executive education programs and give their employees paid leave for study and for examinations. And they even give them a promotion when they get back. If you have a job with a company that is generous in this way, it would be a big mistake to not take advantage of the program.

Getting yourself out of the comfy and familiar surroundings of your cubicle and putting yourself on the line learning new skills, trying hard to stretch yourself, placing yourself among a young and motivated generation to learn with them – all of these can be great experiences have. It’s a kind of opportunity you never get anywhere else in life. You get paid to be better. It’s the closest thing in life that anyone will have to a guaranteed lottery. Make sure you buy a ticket.

Some behavior is expected of us in all the settings into which we enter whilst we are expected to behave in certain other ways only in one specific position. There are patterns of behavior relating to such roles as that of a church sides man at morning service on Sunday that are played in only one setting. These will be called tertiary roles. In addition there is a large number of roles that are played in some, but not all settings. These secondary roles form a large and important part of what we learn whilst being socialized. Some examples will be mentioned very briefly here, though further consideration will be given to such secondary roles in later chapters.

The way in which we analyze secondary socialization is determined by the nature of the social system with which we are concerned. Thus, in advanced urban societies there are clusters of closely interrelated roles that centre on economic and on political institutions, but members of these societies do not play these roles constantly. Such roles may, there-fore, be considered as secondary roles, and much secondary socialization takes place in childhood. By the age at which adolescents leave school they already have learnt, partly at home and partly at school, an incomplete, but wide, knowledge of the occupational structure. In other words, their economic socialization as producers is well under way. At an earlier age they have learnt something of their national role, knowing who to support, for example, in a war or in an international sporting event. Similarly, children gradually learn their political roles so that they know not only such details of their own particular political system as how to vote, but also feel that they are part of it and have a greater or lesser degree of power to take part in and to influence political decisions that concern them.

Clearly socialization is a forward-looking process. In the political and economic examples that have just been given the child was enabled to learn more efficiently the behavior that was later expected of him because, whether consciously or not, prior preparation had been given to him. This preparation has been termed anticipatory socialization. The teaching of social studies at school is often a very relevant part of the child’s preparation for the economic and political roles that he will play in the future. The engaged couple rehearse together prior to marriage many of the behavioral patterns that they will later play as husband and wife. Likewise, the pregnant woman, at least mentally, prepares herself for her future as a mother.

This process of anticipatory socialization is important in that, if it is apt, it eases the transition into future positions. The young person who has been taught at school to study in the more independent way expected of him at a university or college will more easily move from the role of secondary pupil to that of tertiary student. Discontinuities in behavioral expectations are to some degree eliminated. However, anticipatory socialization may be misplaced and thereby discontinuities may remain or even be increased. The child who does not achieve the particular occupation to which he has been led to aspire because either his parents or his school have unduly raised his hopes will have greater difficulties in moving into his economic role than might otherwise have been the case.

One final point must be made before completing this examination of socialization from the structural perspective. Since we can talk of a life cycle of roles through which individuals move, socialization must clearly be a lifelong process. In recent years, as sociologists have realized that this concept and the analytical tools associated with it are equally applicable to the learning of adult roles, much work on adult socialization has been done. Socialization is not something that happens only in childhood. New roles must be learnt, and often old behavior must be forgotten because it is no longer apt for the new positions that are assumed or the new groups that are joined. This is particularly true as persons grow older. They are no longer expected to behave as young folk do. This is attested by the existence of such phrases as ‘mutton dressed as Iamb’. Adult socialization, however, builds greatly on the foundations laid in childhood mainly because, as psychologists have shown us, what we learn as children is more permanent in nature than what we learn in later life.
